Glenview Chamber Launches Mentoring Program

With all the choices out there college or no college, gap year, technology or traditional services, healthcare or casual cuisine, sales or management it takes a Village to mentor teenagers and help them find their future. That's why the Glenview Chamber of Commerce has stepped up with a new program called the Micro Mentoring Project. How does it work? A new website at Glenview Mentoring.org offers teens a menu of micro mentoring experiences available at organizations, corporations, and businesses throughout Glenview.  Just schedule a session and take a tour of how a business or organization works, what kinds of jobs are available there, and what kind of preparation is needed to reach that profession. Each free one-on-one session lasts about an 1.5 hours, and students are encouraged to visit multiple mentors.

The project is the brainstorm of the  Chamber's Young Professionals Group, which focuses on ways to enhance life in Glenview. The group conducted the Village's first-ever summer food drive in 2016. We can't wait to talk with young people about what we're doing and what they'd like to do, said YPG chairman Chris Falcon, owner of Reactive Performance Enhancement Center. It's an opportunity to share what we do everyday, and to learn about how they see the future.

According to Betsy Baer, Chamber Executive Director, Over 75 business people have stepped up to make themselves and their businesses available to our young people.  That along with our great sponsors like Glenview State Bank, HTML Global, Printwell Printing and Reactive Performance Enhancement Center is allowing us to bring this program to our community.

Comprised of more than 500 businesses in Glenview and the region, the Glenview Chamber of Commerce works to make Glenview a great place to live, work, and own a business. For more information, visit the website at www.glenviewchamber.com.
